The Wisdom from a Joke | Letting Go

Moving forward
Once, a wise man organized a seminar aimed at helping people learn how to rid themselves of sorrows. A large crowd gathered, eager to absorb his insights. As he entered the room, he broke the ice by sharing a hilarious joke, and the audience erupted in laughter.

A few minutes later, he repeated the same joke, and while a few chuckles emerged, the laughter was far less enthusiastic. When he recounted the joke for a third time, the room fell silent, with no one laughing at all.

With a knowing smile, the wise man addressed the crowd: "You can’t laugh at the same joke over and over. So why do you cry over the same problem repeatedly?"

This poignant observation resonated deeply, reminding everyone that just as laughter can fade with repetition, so too can the sorrow we cling to. The wise man's lesson urged them to let go of their persistent grievances and embrace the possibility of moving forward.

Lesson

  • Just as laughter fades, so can our problems if we choose to let them go and move forward.
  • Holding onto the same sorrow only prolongs our suffering. It’s essential to release what no longer serves us.
  • Sometimes, a shift in perspective can help us see that our problems don’t deserve the weight we give them.
  • Instead of dwelling on past sorrows, seek joy in the present moment and the experiences that bring happiness.
