Will You Answer a knock at the door | A message of free salvation.

Introduction:

A heartwarming story illustrates the importance of recognizing God's presence in our lives.
Don't let fear or circumstances control your actions, emotions or relationships with God.

When Fear Makes Us Miss Grace

A minister once decided to visit a poor woman in his community because he knew she was struggling greatly and wanted to offer her some financial assistance. Carrying money in his hand, he went to her house and knocked on the door several times. Yet no one answered. Believing that she was not at home, he quietly left.

Later that day, he met the woman at church and mentioned the visit.

“I came to your house earlier and knocked several times,” he said, “but there was no answer, so I assumed you were away.”

The woman looked troubled and asked:

“What time did you come, sir?”

“Around noon,” the minister replied.

With visible sorrow, she answered:

“Oh dear, I heard the knocking, but I was afraid to open the door. I thought it was the landlord coming to demand rent.”

That simple response carries a painful truth that many struggling families understand all too well. Poverty, debt, disappointment, and fear can make people hide from every knock at the door, expecting bad news instead of hope.

In much the same way, many people distance themselves from God because they believe they are unworthy, condemned, or unable to meet His standards. Some think they must first fix their lives, overcome every failure, or become “good enough” before approaching Him. Yet the message of the Gospel is entirely different.

God’s salvation is not purchased with money, status, perfection, or human effort. It is given freely through grace. His invitation is not a demand for payment, but an offer of mercy, restoration, forgiveness, and eternal hope.

Fear has a way of making people close doors that were meant to open blessings into their lives. Sometimes the very help, healing, or direction we pray for arrives in ways we least expect. When we allow fear, shame, or past disappointments to control us, we may unintentionally ignore opportunities for spiritual renewal and growth.

God still knocks on the doors of hearts today — not to condemn, but to restore.

The Lesson

Many people carry heavy burdens financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Life’s hardships can create fear, isolation, and hopelessness. But God’s grace does not require payment, achievement, or perfection. Salvation is a free gift offered through His love.

Do not allow fear, guilt, or difficult circumstances to distance you from God. Remain open to His voice, His guidance, and the people He may send to encourage and uplift your life. Sometimes what appears to be another burden may actually be the beginning of restoration.
